SIX DESIGN DUOS WE ADORE

                          SIX DESIGN DUOS WE LIKE

Kim Kardashian at Time 100 Gala
                         Kim Kardashian

                         Sienna and Savannah Miller
Is it just us, or are sisters totally ruling the fashion world right now? It was Balmain’s AW15 campaign that first got us thinking about the trend, followed by the announcement that Kendall and Kylie Jenner are to turn their fiercely manicured hands to design.

Here are some of our favourite sisterly fashion collabs…

Kendall and Kylie Jenner
After testing the water on sell-out collaborations with Pac Sun and Topshop, Kendall and Kylie are officially launching their own contemporary line, titled, Kendall + Kylie, duh. ‘Designing is something that we’ve always wanted to do, and I think it’s really cool to kind of step back and put the looks together and be a part of the shoot when it’s a different model modelling it and actually being the creative person behind it,’ Kendall told WWD. We’re predicting strong heels, off-duty model denim and a whole lotta bodycon.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
Perhaps the most famous of all sister design duos, Mary-Kate and Ashley turned their Dualstar entertainment company into a high fashion empire in 2006, when they launched their contemporary line Elizabeth and James and premium collection, The Row. Now one of NYFW’s hottest tickets, The Row’s subtly luxurious designs are loved by fashion editors the world over.

Sienna Miller and Savannah Miller
Sienna and Savannah launched Twenty 8 Twelve in 2007 (the height of our infatuation with Sienna’s trademark boho style) and became a firm fixture on the London Fashion Week schedules. The pair stepped down as co-creative directors in 2012, with Savannah launching her own eponymous line.

Laura And Kate Mulleavy
Rodarte designers Laura and Kate have conquered the fashion world their couture-worthy creations. But their route to the top was far from ordinary. ‘We were completely self-taught,’ Laura told Marie Claire Runway exclusively. ‘I studied English literature and Kate studied art history. We flew to New York with ten pieces of clothing and the next thing, we were on the cover of Women's Wear Daily and meeting with Anna Wintour three weeks later in Los Angeles.’

Penélope and Mónica Cruz
The Cruzes have been designing their L’Agent line for Agent Provocateur for 5 seasons now – and it’s smoking hot. The famous actress and her dancer sister clearly know a thing or two about how to look smouldering on all occasions, and now they’re giving their gift to us too.

ALL The Other Kardashian Sisters
Kim, Kourtney and Khloe are long-term collaborators on the famous Kardashian Kollection, a high street line that has teamed up with Lipsy and Dorothy Perkins in the UK. Is there any industry these sisters have yet to tap? We're staying tuned for the hotel chain, the food franchise and the theme park. Can you actually imagine that one?

The risen of the "jumpsuits "

Plenty of trends emerged during resort season, from paper-bag waists to polka dots, but none so dominant as the jumpsuit. Nearly every designer — regardless of aesthetic, or how much his or her clothes typically cost — presented a version.

That's because the jumpsuit phenomenon has as much to do with customer demand as it does with what a designer was "feeling" this season. Global Google searches for “jumpsuits” have risen steadily over the past three years, with a peak at the beginning of each summer.

How a “tricky” garment became a wardrobe staple -- and a sales booster for brands.

A look from Fleur du Mal's fall 2014 collection.Plenty of trends emerged during resort season, from paper-bag waists to polka dots, but none so dominant as the jumpsuit.

Since January 2014, online shopping community Wanelo says that users have searched for jumpsuits about 7,400 times each month, and 400 times each day, on its mobile app. (Wanelo’s traffic is 85 percent mobile.) More than 7,000 products appear in search results for jumpsuits. The romper — a short-leg version of a jumpsuit — is even more popular, averaging 70,840 searches per month and 2,200 per day through the mobile app.

And perhaps the most convincing piece of evidence: Net-a-Porter now has an entire “jumpsuits” category on its drop-down menu.

So how did the jumpsuits get so big? Before 2011, wearing a one-piece was left to outré dressers and cell mates. The last time this look was popular with the masses was in the 1970s, when flamboyant dressing was de rigueur. The renewed interest in the silhouette has opened up a whole new category from which designers can experiment, but also profit.

Los Angeles-based contemporary designer Trina Turk -- known for her spin on mid-century fashions -- says that three years after introducing her first jumpsuit, one-pieces make up 11 percent of her ready-to-wear sales. “Since the beginning, we’ve always done well with jumpsuits, even during the holiday season,” Turk says. “And they perform in warmer months when we offer them in shorter silhouettes and lighter weight fabrics.” (This summer’s runaway hit is the sporty “Yasmine”, $288, available in navy and white.)

But Turk’s brand ethos is rooted in the era when jumpsuits were first embraced. The silhouette — a top and a pant that are connected at the waist — was, for a long time, thought difficult to pull off. Unlike a blouse and trousers, very little adjusting is possible. A dress, of course, is the easiest to wear because different silhouettes hide different “trouble” areas. With jumpsuits, there's literally less room to hide.
